November Invitational Recap
The UCSC November Invitational was an amazing opportunity to get the team together from oldest to youngest. Swimmers from the Varsity team not at Canada West were in attendance, all the way down to our TREX swimmers.
Friday was a day full of firsts. In the afternoon, many swimmers tried their hand at an 800 or 1500 freestyle for the first time, while for others it was a chance to get in a much-needed rep at this type of event. In the evening session, all the groups were together for
racing. It was amazing to see the youngest members of the team racing alongside the oldest.
Saturday and Sunday were set up similarly. For the TREX swimmers, they had the chance to test their hand at a number of different events and strokes in the afternoon sessions. For the older swimmers they had prelims and finals across 100- and 200-meter events, adding timed final 400s during the finals sessions. The 11-12/12-13 age group saw these swimmers race their peers and they brought some awesome head-to-head battles. The 13/14 & Overs had A, B, and C finals. Bringing these age groups together provided very tight and deep racing across the events, while providing lots of chances to race.
While it was not the peak competitions of the cycle, four swimmers were still able to break club records. Congrats to Maxine Clark (100 Fly), Laon Kim (200 IM), Kinnon Sen (50 Back), and Callie Cardiff (100 Breast) on their record breaking swims!
This meet was the final prep for many swimmers before their peak meet, and based on the results they are well set up for exciting competitions in December.
