Alberta Summer Championships: The Recap
The Alberta Provincial Championships marked the final competition for many of our UCSC swimmers,
capping off yet another amazing season. We had over 120 swimmers competing at MNP from July 27-
30. While the sessions were long, the swims were fast!
Racing in a familiar pool, this competition served as a peak meet to end the season and vie for personal
bests. An entire year of hard work and dedication was put into every race. Across all age groups, the
swimmers showcased their abilities and resilience through the four-day competition, achieving many
personal bests as teammates cheered loudly, and supported one another.
Amidst all the racing and emotions, the swimmers never lost sight on the importance of having fun. One
of the most fun highlights being the mixed relays. The excitement of swimming as a team, with
teammates of the opposite gender is always a blast!
In addition to the plethora of best times, and numerous new standards achieved, a handful of records
were taken down as well. Angelina Wang broke her own club record in the 50 fly for 12-year-old girls,
while Alexis Yuan broke the 11-year-old girls records in the 100 back, and 200 back, as well as cracking
the provincial record in the 50 back. Also, the quartet of Alexis Yuan, Meghan Sutherland, Angelina
Wang, and Mya Harrington dipped under the 11-12 National Age Group record in the 4x50m medley
relay.
Capping of their UCSC age-group careers at Provincials was Cooper Scott who will be heading east and attending the University of Waterloo, Maya Besseling who is heading overseas to start her post-secondary adventures in England, as well as Claire Bennett, Quinlann Bymoen, and Emily Bugbee who will all be attending and swimming for the University of Calgary in the Fall.
As the season comes to an end, the swimmers can look back with pride for all that they’ve achieved,
both individually and as a team. We’re grateful for the experiences and opportunities, as well as the
memories made. Pat yourselves on the back for a successful season and enjoy some well-deserved
downtime this Summer.
See you in September!
