TREX Meet Write Up

June 7, 2023

Regional and Provincial Groups

Regional and provincial swimmers were challenged with trying out different race plans in both familiar and unfamiliar events, while adapting to not having access to a proper cool down. Overall, they carried everything out marvelously. From swimmers literally knocking off minutes from single events to others matching best times they haven't seen in a while and everything in between; it was a great weekend that will help swimmers prepare for some fast racing for the last stretch of the season.

12C

Some of the 12c swimmers participated in this competition, all of them showed very good self-discipline. At the same time, they’re trying hard to complete each of the event. It is an opportunity to train their spirits to be stronger and face physically tried challenges. Congratulations to the swimmers on their progress.

TREX

The TREX squads had some spectacular swims at the UCSC TREX meet June 2-4. For the 11 and over swimmers there were 200 backstrokes and breaststrokes which was a great opportunity to practice pacing in something other than freestyle.  There were also 400 freestyles for most of the older swimmers, and 200 IMs for some of the 10 and unders, along with 50s and 100s of all the strokes where we saw many best times and breakthrough swims!  TREX had two new Festival qualifiers and some really great racing - some REALLY great racing!  Our TREX squads have been gaining good race experiences this season and using them to their advantage.  Their pace and speed work in training is translating to well swum and brave racing.  Well done TREX!

12D

The 12D squad made some monumental progress at this past TREX swim meet. Many got to experience finals once again this year, with most improving the place they’re coming in finals and prelims. They are showing their ability to better manage nerves, stay fuelled with food and water, stay warm, and focus on what they can control. Additionally, they swam their first-ever 400 freestyle. They did not back away from this challenge and many left the pool acknowledging that it is not as bad as they thought! Well done to 12D for all of your accomplishments!
