CLUB TESTING
Club Testing will be conducted three times throughout the training year. After each round of testing swimmers will be provided a % grade which will determine if they will move up to the next training group or remain in the training group that they are currently in.
The benchmark standards for the training groups are as follows:
AGD/T-Rex to JrAG Swimmers may move at 64-65.9%. Swimmers move at 66%.
JrAG to YAG Swimmers may move at 70-71.9%. Swimmers move at 72%.
YAG to NDG Swimmers may move at 75-76.9%. Swimmers move at 77%
NDG to N2 Swimmers may move at 80-81.5%. Swimmers move at 82%
The highlighted percentages indicate that the swimmer has achieved a standard to move to the next group but there should be a scheduled meeting and consultation with their current coach to discuss the move.
If for some reason you do not feel that your child should move to the next higher group once they have achieved the standard please discuss the situation with your child's coach.
It should be noted that these standards may change slightly as we continually evaluate the progress of our athletes and ensure they are being developed in accordance with proper long term athlete development recommendations.
UCSC PHYSIOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENTAL EVALUATION SYSTEM
This document outlines the testing protocols for all Training Groups. The following test sets are designed to provide essential information regarding training abilities and physiological development of the swimmers. The data that it provides will help coaches determine swimmers readiness to be moved to the next training group.
This testing is important for monitoring training and the learning process. It also provides an opportunity for coaches and athletes to review the training methods for the past session and make changes if required. The information from this testing is specific and will allow us to design and develop a more efficient and successful swim program.
The sets should be completed during the TESTING WEEKS and sent in before the deadline dates (electronic recording sheets are provided for coaches).
Test Descriptions and Testing Protocol details.
1. T- 2000 Non-stop swim Short Course.
Freestyle
Record: Time for T-2000
Measure: Average pace time
Indicator of: Aerobic Capacity and General Endurance
2. 5x100m on 3 dive Short Course.
Freestyle
Record: Time per each 100
Measure: Best average
Indicator of: Speed related to Anaerobic Capacity
3. 6x50m Kick on 2- dive Short Course.
Free, Fly , Back done on side, back, or front no flutter board/streamlined position
Record: Time per each 50
Measure: Best average
Indicator of: Kicking speed endurance
4. 200 or 400 FL dive (12 and under - 200 FL to be used) Short Course.
Fly
Record: Time
Indicator of: Strength related Aerobic Capacity
5. 4x50m on 2 Time + Stroke Count - Long Course
One of each stroke two hands on the wall and use open turn
Record: Time on each 50 and the stroke count ( Start the time on the signal and stop it on the hand(s) touch)
Measure: Sum of Time and Stroke Count
Indicator of current speed abilities and stroke efficiency
Each swimmer will receive a % grade on each evaluation and will be given an average score. The testing protocols measure components such as anaerobic capacity, aerobic capacity and stroke efficiency. Although a swimmer may be weak in one area they may be very strong in another and achieve the average score necessary to move to the next higher training group.
Please see the percent chart for time standards and how they relate to the percentage score.
