UCSC CHURCHILL SQUAD EVENT SCHEDULE

so that the children swim with great joy

so that the children swim with excellent technique

so that the children have confidence in their abilities

First of all, remember that the best laid plans of mice and men...
We will let you know about changes to this schedule as soon as we know.

The plan for our swim season is based on the principles for Long Term Athlete Development.

  • There are SKILLS EVALUATIONS to measure skill development -- the foundation of swimming with excellence.
  • The swimmers will be evaluated continuously on distance freestyle and the development of all strokes. The foundations of excellence in aerobic and all stroke swimming are streamline, head position, arm strokes (long, strong and smooth), stroke rhythm, kicking, starts, turns, finishes, stroke efficiency, and swim meet racing times.
  • There are TOP SWIMS (Tiny Olympic Prospects) in November, January and April. TOP is a program for 10 and under swimmers where there is a distance freestyle swim and an IM swim for each age -- 7 and under, 8 year olds, 9 year olds, 10 year olds. The swimmers' names are printed in SwimNews magazine.
  • SWIM-A-THON is in March and this is an opportunity for the swimmers to see how far they can swim in two hours. Parents come on deck and count lengths.
  • There are SWIM MEETS and our swimmers will be entered when they are ready to be successful in a "competitive" situation. Ribbons will be awarded for each swim.
