UCSC Swimmers Shine at Canadian Age Group Champs

Canadian Age Group Championships - Day 5 Recap
Another awesome day to finish off this year's national champs.  The team moved up 5 spots from last year to 8th which was great.  Leading off the night was 14 year old Nikki Macleod who swam a 2:24 in the 200IM to break a 15 year old club record set by Allison Zwarich.  The swim earned her bronze medal and became her first senior national qualifying time!!  Nikki will now join her fellow N2 team mate who also earned her first senior national time, Anna Kemeri and fly to Victoria to compete in her first senior nationals!!  In the 15 year old 50 fly Chelsea Shaul swam a stunning 28.8 out of lane 1 to win silver and Lindsay Delmar swam a season best 50 Fl winning Gold in the 16-18 girls with a 27.70.  eric Anderson was 5th in the 17-18 boys 50 fly in a personal best 25.75.  Leah Wookey destroyed a 23 year old club record in the 11-12 girls 400fr finishing 7th in the 400fr in a personal best of 4:46.12.  The previous record was set by Joanne Radke in 1987.  David Dimitrov owned the 17-18 boys 400fr winning gold in a time of 4:00.56.  The 16-18 girld 400Medley Relay of Anna Kemeri, Natalie McCallum, Lindsay Delmar, and Monika Markacova won silver and the boys 17-18 boys relay of Eric Anderson, Tony Mak, David Dimitrov and Connoe Maxey also won 2nd.  Another long time record was broken by Lindsay Delmar in the meet in the girls 200Fr.  Lindsay broke a 21 year old club record that was set by Allison Higson swimming a 2:02.2.  UCSC also had two girls and two boys on the womens and mens Provincial Relays, which both won the all star 4X100free.  Having 2 swimmers on both, 50% of the relays shows that kids in our club get fast and are excited to swim in their senior year!  Congratulations all, now to the open water!

Canadian Age Group Championships – Day 4 Recap
A great night for UCSC swimmers! Our swimmers had 2 individual gold medals starting with Lindsay Delmar in the 16-18 girls 200Fr final swimming a lifetime best of 2:02.27! Soon after Eric Anderson dove in for the 17-18 boys 200Fr final winning the event in a personal best of 1:54.18while team mate David Dimitrov claimed the Bronze!
 Our NDG swimmers faired well with Leah Wookey finishing 6th in a personal best of 1:11.73, Haley Jaques finishing 5th in a personal best time of 1:09.73, having a tremendous finish, and Yuri Kisil with another tremendous finish to finish 7th in 1:04.48! The 15-18 girls 4X100 FR relay finished 4th while the boys 16-18 relay finished 3rd after one of the swimmers lost their goggles! The 16-18 boys relay also scored points for the team by finishing 7th overall!!! All-in-all, a great night for UCSCS! Swimmers swimming personal best times this morning were An Trinh, Anna Kemeri, Kara Vanderbeek, Natalie McCallum, Sean Kubik, Stefan Pripoae, Tony Mak, Derek Ostrom, Carlo Villareal-Escudero, Nigel Macneil, Gord Masson, Duncal Donaldson, Corbin Pratt, Connor Maxey, Griffin Brown, and Bryce Pratt.

Canadian Age Group Championships – Day 3 Recap
Another Golden moment for UCSC’s Lindsay Delmar as she swam to victory in the 16-18 girls 200fly in a time of 2:15.74. Eric Anderson won the Bronze in 17-18 boys 200fly while Chelsea Shaul was 6th in a personal best of 2:25.29! Monika Marcakova finished 4th in the 16-18 girls 50fr in a time of 26.67 and Lindsay Delmar finished 7th in a time of 26.86. Connor Maxey also swam to 5th place finish in the 17-18 boys 50Fr in a personal best of 24.15. David Dimitrov finished 7th in the 17-18 boys 100Br in a personal best of 1:08 and Leah Wookey finished 6th in the 12 year old girls 800 fr to round out our top 8 finalists on day 3.
Also swimming personal best times on day 3 were, Carlo Villareal-Escudero, Tony Mak, Derek Ostrom, Terence Tat, Corbin Pratt, Gord Masson, Jarod Tsang, Yuri Kisil, Ben Blondal, Mike Siarkowski, Griffin Brown, Stefan Pripoae, Nikki Macleod, Toree Wenaas, An Trinh, and Duncan Donaldson.

Canadian Age Group Championships – Day 2 Recap

UCSC had another Golden moment at the Canadian Age Group Championships as the 16-18 Boys 4X200 Freestyle Relay won the gold medal in a time of 7:41.73. Eric Anderson led off the relay in a personal best of 1:54, followed by Connor Maxey in split of 1:55, Griffin Brown in a huge personal best of 1:57 and then David Dimitrov anchoring in a 1:54. The girls 15 and over relay also came home with a Bronze tonight in the 4X200. Lindsay Delmar led in a blistering 2:03, followed by Natalie McCallum in a 2:08 and then Anna Kemeri and Monika Marcakova both in 2:10’s. Lindsay Delmar also won silver in the 16-18 girls 100fr in a personal best time of 56.78, 4/100th’s off the gold medal while Monika Marcakova finished 7th in a personal best 58.03. In individual swims David Dimitrov won Gold in the 16-18 boys 400IM. Connor Maxey earned a bronze in the 17-18 boys 100fr with a personal best time of 52.5 while Eric Anderson was a close 4th in 52.6 also in a personal best. Haley Jaques finished 6th in the 13 girls 50Bk in a personal best of 32.60 while jarod Tsang finished a solid 5th also in a personal best of 31.15. Yuri Kisil was also able to enjoy a great UCSC night finishing 8th in the boys 14 year old 50bk in a personal best of 30.21. Other swimmers attaining personal best times today were Carling Jones, Leah Vanderbeek, Duncan Donaldson, Griffin Brown, Derek Ostrom, Gord masson, Tony Mak, Roger Hanna, and Anna Kemeri! A great day of swimming for UCSC!

Canadian Age Group Championships - Day 1 Recap!!

UCSC got off the blocks to a successful start at the 2010 Canadian Age Group Championships. Lindsay Delmar led the way with a Gold medal performance in the 16 and over girls 100 fly swimming a season best 1:00.88. Eric Anderson and Chelsea Shaul also turned in medal performances in the 100 fly winning Silver in the 17-18 boys and 15 year old girls respectively. Both swimmers turned in lifetime best swims and Chelsea earned another senior national qualifying time. Leah Wookey alsoearned a spot on the podium winning the Bronze medal in the 12 year old girls 1500fr in a personal best of 18:51. Anna Kemeri had a remarkable swim in the 200Bk swimming a 2:23.9 qualifying her for the Canadian Senior National Championships, taking off a whopping 4 seconds and finishing 8th in the 16-18 girls final. Haley Jaques had a terrific swim making the finals in the 13 year old girls 200Bk final and finishing 5th, while Yuri Kisil made the 14 year old boys 200Bk and swam to a 6th place finish in a personal best time of 2:16.90. Carlo Villareal-Escudero finished 8th in the 16 year old boys 50Br to round out the evening finals. Other swimmers achieving personal best times on day 1 were Griffin Brown, Toree Wenaas, Kara Vanderbeek, Nikki Macleod, Carling Jones, Leah Vanderbeek, Gord Masson, Matt Jones, Sean Kubik, Tony Mak, and Roger Hanna. This was a great start to the meet…bring on day 2!
